Our favorite places and experiences were off the tourist grid: don't hesitate to ride out to the East and/or West End of the Island, with great sightseeing. Close to everything and even more convenient with a vehicle.
DISCOVERY BAY BOAT RENTALS WINDOWS
We LOVED that the windows and doors were all screened to let in the ocean breeze and you could hear the ocean from the home, most times. You start out at 10 am and don't return until 5 pm.We had a great stay at this lovely spacious 2 BR home. You probably shouldn't bring a hat because one man's hat blew off during the trip. You don't need to bring a hat because it is shaded. The boat is a 55-foot houseboat with the top deck completely covered. We would consider taking one of their other cruises, like seeing the Christmas lights around Discovery Bay, which is a shorter trip and has a lot more to see. We are glad we went but I doubt we would choose to do it again. But there was only one sofa where one could get comfortable enough to nap, and it was occupied the entire trip back.

We had seen what little scenery there was and we were so sleepy from the delicious meal, we just wanted to relax and nap. The trip back was just plain long and boring. There service was good and the food was incredibly delicious! We mostly enjoyed watching the wide variety of speed boats zipping by us and the various draw bridges as we went under them.Īt Stockton we ate at Garlic Brothers. From the top deck you can see over the levy to the farm land so its a bit more interesting view. From the bottom deck there isn't much scenery other than the water, the high power lines, the ugly levy, and the three draw bridges we went under. We stayed at the bottom deck and had the entire front of the boat to ourselves all the way to Stockton. Upon boarding, everyone went to the top deck where the bar was. The trip left from Discovery Bay to Stockton, which takes 2.5 hours. It was relaxing in that there is nothing to do other than watch the scenery and drink alcohol. We went on this cruise to celebrate our anniversary. They also 'count noses' if there is a shore excursion to make sure all guests are on the return trip. This is to acknowledge the safety briefing as well as to make sure the Captain and staff know how many folks are aboard. And, you will need to sign-in on the roster before you board.
DISCOVERY BAY BOAT RENTALS FULL
The Captain does a full safety briefing before folks can board. And, if you bring your own tunes he can stream these as well. The Captain narrates a bit as interesting sights or stories arise. Views are still good through the transparent flaps and this is a trip worth taking. In the winter they close the flaps on the top deck and use heaters if it is chilly. The 3 crew members and the Captain kept an eye on everyone and not only made sure we were safe but they truly wanted to make sure we had a good time and were not too warm or too cool. Those who are space challenged may want to be sure to use the facilities at both the Broadway Grill in Discovery Bay as well as their destination if they go ashore.

While they are easy to use, the quarters are tight. But, those who are challenged will still have very good views and comfort from the main deck. The stairway to the above deck is narrow and steep. Drink orders are taken for very reasonably priced adult and non-adult beverages. The above deck has the bar, a counter top island with stools and a number of individual padded chairs from which to view the scenery as well. The main deck is enclosed and offers a full kitchen with a dining table and chairs, a comfy sofa and a small private patio deck.

It was a reasonably priced package and one of the best afternoons I have spent in a long time. We took a cruise from the Discovery Bay Yacht Harbor and went to Stockton where we had a very good lunch at Garlic Bros. Captain Morgan and his wonderful crew offer cruises as well as houseboat rentals aboard this fully renovated houseboat along with outstanding hospitality.
